I will be speaking on Tuesday evening at Trinity Church in Boston. The topic is "The Sublime and the Sacred in Twentieth-Century Music." The provisional playlist, which may be foreshortened when the audience begins to walk out in droves, includes Satie, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Webern, Janáček, Frank Martin, Cage, Feldman, Britten, Salvatore Martirano, Bernstein, Stockhausen, Ligeti, Penderecki, Ustvolskaya, B. A. Zimmermann, Pärt, Glass, Reich, Jonathan Harvey, Gubaidulina, and, naturally, Messiaen.
Alas, the cats and I could not be present when Gayby, my husband's first feature film, won both the Audience Award for Best Feature and the Jury Prize for Best Acting Ensemble at the Ashland Independent Film Festival in Ashland, Oregon. We're very happy nonetheless!
