I'm intensely curious to see Gerard McBurney's Inside the Music presentation on the Shostakovich Fourth tonight at the NY Phil. A performance under Andrey Boreyko follows. Tickets are $25-62, with $12 student rush.... Kyle Gann has posted audio of his piano concerto Sunken City, a New Orleans celebration and lament. It's a swinging, haunting piece, evoking the city before and after the flood. One passage toward the end made me think of Lou Harrison picking his way through the ruins, shaking his head....
