Peter Rolufs, our Japanese correspondent, points us toward the researches of Masuru Emoto, who has demonstrated, or at least proposed, that crystals grow different patterns based on what kind of music they are listening to. They even respond to different musical labels on their jars. Mozart, of course, grows the most attractive patterns. Rolufs draws the necessary conclusion that "crystals are literate, infinitely multilingual, and perhaps even eligible to run for office."
