For the book, I'm revisiting an old favorite, a recording of the Ravel Trio by the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson trio. It's on an Arabesque two-CD set that also includes the Sonata for Violin and Cello, the Violin Sonata, and the Sonate posthume. I can never get over the image of Ravel driving a truck behind the front lines at the Battle of Verdun, shells falling to his left and his right, music such as this playing in his brain.
