Timothy Andres is a formidable young composer-pianist who figured in my piece about New York-area student composers last spring. In June he gave a powerhouse performance of Ives' Concord at the CAMI recital hall; Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe was there and raved. On Election Night, Andres is playing at Sudler Hall at Yale, in a program that includes Adams' China Gates, Barber's Excursions, Rzewski's Four North American Ballads, and his own piano sonata. He also designed the gripping red poster above.
