Mark Swed has written an erudite and entertaining mini-history of the Ojai Festival. Essential is the anecdote of a teen-aged Swed about to be ejected from an Ojai rehearsal in the sixties, when Pierre Boulez turns around, sees that Swed is holding a score of Stockhausen's Zeitmasse, and invites him to stay.
